We visited Leilani Kanaauao Huggins, a fourth-generation lei maker in Los Angeles, to learn about the significance and history behind the lei. Lei-making is deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture and reflects its emphasis on sharing, love, and community. Leilani, who comes from a long line of Hawaiian educators and cultural preservationists, showed us how to make beautiful lei po'o (lei for the head) with her friends and family.
